"I’ve always been fascinated by the strong symbolism which characterizes signs and objects in the East Asian cultures. Linguistic and visual codes are deeply entangled; rites and superstition widely lay behind words and behaviors.
For this project, I used the Chinese divination book I-Ching to name the six lamps.
In the Gua Series, I’ve been working with recycled materials and low voltage fixtures, which allowed me to design very light objects and to enhance the light source. I was also interested in using standard objects and components in unusual ways.
I decided to stick to a syntax made of simple shapes, such as a line, an arc, a circle, a square or a triangle."
